I decided that there are some things about China that present such a stark contrast in the ways it has chosen to develop. What I mean is that there are some things that are fairly basic that you think should be in place for a country so technologically advanced. For example, my friend had to go and pay her credit card bill. Yeah GO and make a physical trip to pay her credit card bill. Since there aren’t any checks here, people don’t mail in their payments. And as I mentioned before, it’s hard for banks to work together so it’s a bit more complicated than clicking a few buttons and paying your bills online (though there is an option for you to link up accounts separately). So what does she have to do? Go and withdraw a wad of cash and go to a branch of the credit card company and pay for it in person (not to mention wait in line to pay). What a terrible waste of time.
What struck me was that the second she deposited the money into the credit card account, she got a SMS on her cell saying X amount of money was deposited into her credit card account. What a crazy contrast huh?
